Burrow Baiting Best Practice
When Norway rat activity is external, particularly in agricultural situations, burrow baiting with rodenticide pellets can be a useful control technique. In areas where there are competing food sources, with rats active indoors and outdoors around buildings, a highly palatable kibbled maize bait base may be required.
Burrow baiting is an example of a ‘non-standard use’ that must appear on product labels for it to be permissible.

While burrow baiting can carry additional risks, this is sometimes justified when there is no other alternative to get rodents to take baits. This can be the case when there are competing food sources.
